Thanks for the suggestions of strength training videos yesterday! I will be paroozing my options the next couple of days!
Makeup:
Call this a strange post if you will but I am going with it. When it comes to makeup, how often do you wear it? I have been called out for putting on makeup, by my boyfriend when it’s just us two lounging. We spend countless weekend nights watching movies and sipping wine. He does not understand why I sometimes put makeup on after my shower and he does not understand when I precisely decide what cute PJs to put on.
My point? When my 100% Italian Grandmother was alive, you could never catch her with out her jewelry, makeup and hair did. I as a child used to ask, “but why do you put on makeup when it’s just us going down the shore?” She would respond, “Well, it makes me feel good”. That was that. I never really questioned it more. Wanna see a picture of my Mom-Mom Marie at age 43?
She took much pride in the way she looked. I swear she was never caught looking bad. She eventually was diagnosed with cancer at the age of 60 and even through her long exhausting battle for two years, she didn’t take her wig off until she went to bed. 🙂 My Mom-Mom was one strong lady, I could probably dedicate an entire post to her and what she has been through!
I learned it’s nice to take pride in yourself and feel your best, even if it’s for your boyfriend on a Friday night – movie night or having a vino night with your girls. But don’t get me wrong, there are most certainly many times where I don’t wear makeup or do my hair! I just like to remind myself of the old fashion ways I guess.
Housewives back in the day would vacuum, dust, make the beds, cook..you name it. all while in heels, pearls, lipstick and a dress. Have you ever noticed older women today get more dressed up than anyone? Lol, appearance and class was huge back then. So I see no wrong in fixing yourself up for no reason.
Your thoughts? How often do you primp yourself?
I do very briefly before work (I wear very minimal makeup to work) and quickly when I get home from work with a cute lounging outfit for the boy.
I like looking nice, but that doesnt mean Im willing to put in the effort most of the time. If Im going out I will do full makeup and hair (which means I blow dry it), and sometimes on the weekend if I really feel like it I’ll put some makeup on. But honestly, I feel like I look my best after an extra sweaty workout when I’ve washed off all my makeup and my hair is up. I dont know what it is, but I always think I look better like that than all done up.
I seriously have some major lazy days and slump around and go out in public like that as well. It’s not a pretty site to see haha. I thinks it’s also bc I discovered makeup at the age of 19! lol so I just love it.
I always have a bit of blush on, and put eye make up on if I’m going out at night. I don’t go too heavy though.
Your grandmother was a gorgeous lady!
No I am not a heavy makeup person either, I just like to look presentable I guess. But seriously there are many times where I let my hair air dry with no product in it and have no makeup on. Btw my hair is a curly frizz ball 🙂
That’s a great post.
I used to never be caught in casual clothing for work and when going out, never wore jeans. But since I got more into exercise and running, when my hair was piled on my head in a pony tail and no makeup because it made me break out when I would sweat, I started dressing down and wore less makeup.
I would LOVE to have the motivation to always try to look my best but after my long days, I can’t find the energy. Maybe I’ll try again after reading your post.
I’m sure my husband would send you 1000 kisses. 🙂
Well thank you!
Lol well maybe that’s my problem, I need to start working out more!!! My lack of shopping has DEF made me more comfortable in more casual clothes I should have added haha.
Never leave the house without eyeliner or bronzer. I can do without mascara, but the other two are a must! =)
Thanks girl for reaching out to me on my blog. That was so kind of you-it means all the world to me to have the support! =) please keep in touch!
I love mascara, people tell me I don’t need it but I feel better with it on. And honestly, I look forward to talking with you more. I’ll be following up on your blog! 🙂 xoxo
I am not a primper! I have zero time to put on makeup, not to mention I am completely incapable of doing it right!
Love your honesty! And you are still beautiful! I am sure once I have my house and all the projects that are entailed with that, my makeup will be much, much less of a priority!!
Your gma was just gorgeous, she looks like an old-school, glam movie star! Good genes must run in the family 🙂
I’m a semi-primper. I get ready in 20 minutes for work and throughout the day I might touch up here and there. I don’t tend to primp when I’m sitting at home but I must admit I also get gussied up just to go to the store!
Yeah she was so pretty, I still wear clothes that were hers! No lie! And thank youuuu!!!
Yeah I don’t put on makeup if I am alone haha but I have had too many incidents where I have seen people out on an errand and I look like Medusa or something lol. So now I don’t take that chance
I always wear makeup, even in front of just my hubby. I think I look weird without it. My eyelashes are really light, so I always wear some kind of mascara. I dont really wear eye shadow unless its a special occasion or I just want to feel prettier. Playing up my eyes makes me feel sassy 😉
I agree 100%! I don’t know what it is, I just love looking nice for him. Mascara is awesome!
i used to ALWAYS wear makeup (especially in front of the boy) but when you live together and he sees you enough without it – it becomes like, eh, whatever. he already knows 🙂 now i don’t wear makeup if i run to the store, but for going out and seeing friends, yes, definitely. i feel more confident, and besides – you kinda dress for the occassion, don’t you?? living in downtown Sydney means we go to a lot of “dressing up” places so you want to look nice to fit with the environment. (and on a side note, you’re right, your grandma WAS GORGEOUS.)
Yeah, I you are right about dressing for the occassion…I just like to touch up around him, don’t know why lol
If it’s a regular work day, I just throw on some bronzer, blush, eyeshadow and mascara. If it’s the weekend, I live on the edge, I add eyeliner.
lol yeah I like my eyeshadow on the weekends!!!
Your mom-mom WAS gorgeous!!!!!!! My mami was same way with makeup and jewelry….is it an Italian thing?
I wear a little makeup during the week…and on the weekends I am totally all out with it, it makes me feel good….I LOVE playing up my eyes, wearing great gloss, lashes, makes me feel pretty…i work in sweats, so I enjoy getting dolled up!
Thanks for the kind words today, loved it 🙂
Yes she was! That picture does not even do her justice! I guess it was an Italian thing haha.
I love my mascara! I love batting my lashes :). I am in love with lip gloss too!
You are too cute and really I am excited to read through your pregnancy!
43? She looks amazing there! If you hadn’t told us her age I don’t think anyone would have been able to guess. Very pretty. 🙂
On my days off from work when I’ll be spending the whole day at home I usually stay in my pajamas and wear no makeup. On days when I work I’ll make an effort with my outfit and put on some mascara, eyeliner, blush and maybe a light eyeshadow. Sometimes I’ll straighten my hair too.. but only because it’s kind of blah on it’s own.
Yeah she always looked good! She had a killer bod in her 40s! She used to wear hot pants and all lol.
Yeah once I shower that’s when I put makeup on. Not when I get up and am in my pjs or anything. I try to fix my hair at times too haha my bf is always asking me if I turned the straightener off bc I am always messing with it.
I used to wear makeup all the time, but now I pick and choose. I definitely always wear it to work, but not every time I leave the house. I’m sorry that I never got back to your running question.. I just kind of started doing it, made a goal, and then fell in love with the feeling I get when I run. Thanks for stopping by my blog!
Yeah I hope to get into running a bit more but I am concentrating on toning up right now.
